My first reply before reading on and learning more: I don't deny this but, oh, the Gene Autry Museum here in LA has some gorgeous paintings of Native Americans. What I don't know is the nationality of the painters.
"Artists were commissioned to paint landscapes with 'Indians' to remember them when we were all gone."
