Friday night the midway
heaves with life
clogged with arterial lines
that snake across and through
the night air thins out
cut by carnival machines 
that sweep and groan
with hydraulic sighs
brilliant lights intrude
into the shadow where
faces watch, lit by cellphone
sinister glow
At the Fair
