…alking these hushed
and silent streets
past so many shut-eyed houses,
the cars, quiet in driveways;
past the cafes
with the scattered bodies
of upturned chairs on tables; giant insects
after some mass extermination,
the unlit bar signs
and streets, unfettered
of former endless
trails of traffic
