Oh, John, have I ever. You were fired from a job. I was fired from a relationship with a new woman ready and willing to take my place. (Enough said) All you can do is accept those waves, those overwhelming moments of "reminders of what was lost." Welcome them back as in don't resist. It's the resistance that gets us in trouble and prolongates the pain/process. I'm a Boomer so I often think of a Simon and Garfunkel lyric: Hello, darkness, my old friend.

This dark night of your soul will teach you much...and how wonderful that you're using your wounded/burned out part of your soul/psyche to help heal others. In UKRAINE. Heroic stuff. Bravo
