So gorgeously haunting and poignant!

Later, when it was dark, I dug a hole
My tears mingling with the earth
As I replanted it in the moonlight
While my eldest watched from the kitchen window
A memory he would hold forever
A reminder of the price we pay
When we ignore our past.
