Both gone over forty years, their house long
torn down, nothing now but a weeded over
vacant lot in a poor part of town. We buried her
in her best dress, one she only wore twice, once
to her granddaughter’s wedding then to her own
funeral, the matching jacket laid across her hands,
which were always cold to the touch on your cheek.
