This reminds me of my treks (on foot) when I was at silent retreats in Sierra Madre's foothills, Mater Dolorosa retreat center. The brothers would warn us - do not go out at night. And not alone at dusk. It was wild kingdom there, with bears that liked to swim in the fountain. (This was pre-Covid, pre-mega drought)
